Unfair Bank Charges?

What a way to wake up in the morning and the first article that comes to my attention is the one where someone won a case against a bank here in the UK on unfair charges.
Yes! quite true. A customer exasperated by excessive bank charges plans to send bailiffs into a high street bank branch to recover his money after winning a landmark court ruling. His argument: the bank charges are there to make money for the bank rather than recover its costs.
Where does that leave me? Of late I have noticed my bank charges have risen to almost £30!. This compared to £6 when I came to the UK 5 years ago. Now what went wrong?
First, I had an overdraft facility of £500 which has risen to £2200... more money more trouble. This has made me highly dependent on the O/D facility hence the high charges.
Second, I opened a Cash ISA account to transfer most of my cash to this account. This account has helped me to put aside some good amounts of money - which hopefully should help me either go back to school or settle back in Africa.

And by the way the young who did the noble deed is an Accountant (a noble profession indeed!) And his debts arose while still a student. - Before he adopted prudence concept!
